| The network IFREMER/REMORA quarterly follows each year 2 batches of Pacific cupped oysters Crassostrea gigas ("juveniles"= 1 year old; and "adults" = 2 years old) on various sites among the main French oyster areas. The network monitors 46 sites, including 7 new sites added in 2003 to the network. The network REMORA thus assess seasonal survival, growth and quality of cupped oyster oysters. It is a tool for trend estimations, ecosystem management and a reference frame for scientific studies. In spite of the heat wave of the summer, rearing performances in 2003 were close to the average inter annual 1994-2003 data. The rearing yield reached 1.8 for the adults. The network monitored 46 sites in 2004, including the 7 new sites added in 2003. The network REMORA thus assess seasonal survival, growth and quality of cupped oysters. It is a tool for trend estimations, ecosystem management and a reference frame for scientific studies. Globally speaking, the year 2004 was a good year for oyster farming, with a low mortality and a fast growth. The rearing yield (survival x growth) reached 2.0 for adults instead of 1.8 usually. Hanging as well as sea bed cultures produced good results in some countries. This latter method has been successful for Patinopeeten ye.ssoen.sis and Pecien novaezelandiae in Japan and New Zealand respectively. In Europe, only Peeten ma.ximus as a local species seems appropriate for development by a sea ranching production: the market demand is strong, the fisheries are closed due to over exploitation and hanging cultures are not economically feasible. Two stress gradients were applied in this study, a short acute desiccation stress and a long-term density stress. These stress gradients were used to assess the usefulness of various techniques for quality assessment: namely, a standard salinity stress test, condition index, recessing speed of the scallop, adenylic energetic charge (AEC). and percentage carbohydrate content of the striated muscle. | Suite aux mortalités massives de coques apparues au Croisic en août 1997, des études ont été mises en place en 1998, avec une coordination des travaux des différents laboratoires impliqués: suivi de la température et de la matière organique dans le sédiment, suivi des animaux et observation des parasites. | Marine Protected Areas (MPA) have turned to be a privileged tool for sustainable management of coastal areas and associated activities. But MPA's results for biodiversity and sustainable fisheries have to be assessed. That is the aim of PAMPA project, which is built on the experience of 7 French MPAs in the Mediterranean sea and in the overseas territories. In this PAMPA project, Ifremer Océan Indien has mainly been involved in the analysis of fisheries data and opinion surveys, conducted from July to October 2010, towards fishermen on board around the coral reef. About sixty fishermen have been interviewed. Only two of them denied answering. Recreational fishers are "local people", about forty or fifty years old, regularly at sea, but without fishing... |
